AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE HANGAR (AVCRAD)
CLIENT: MISSISSIPPI ARMY NATIONAL GUARD
Tice Engineering was hired by Albert and Associates Architects of Hattiesburg, Mississippi to design the civil site components of the 1108th Aviation Classification Repair Activity Depot’s (AVCRAD) new Air Maintenance Hangars. The project consists of two hangars totaling more than 89,000 square feet. These hangars will be used by the AVCRAD division to repair and maintain helicopters for military facilities throughout the southeastern United States. The two-year construction project will require special phasing to ensure the AVCRAD division can continue providing the current level of service to the Mississippi Air National Guard throughout construction.
The civil portion of the design included designing a temporary wash pad to maintain AVCRAD services, improving existing drainage structures, providing access to the hangars and support structures, and relocating existing utilities to service new and existing structures. In addition to standard civil site design components, the Mississippi National Guard was seeking LEED accreditation for this project. Tice Engineering was able to provide the necessary calculations and design features to qualify the project for several credits.
